Gangster!Oishi Series: Sheltered

Inspiration struck when I was getting ready to app a new RP comm with Oishi being in a gang. The series of fics that came from this inspiration have been affectionately dubbed the "Gangster!Oishi Series."

This is completely and utterly AU. Oishi has never even been to Japan, having been raised in Korea. He usually goes by the name "Shin." At the age of 12 he moves to America with his family. That's where this series picks up.

Title: Sheltered
Characters: Oishi "Shin" Shuichiro
Rating: PG
Summary: Oishi goes for a walk in his new neighborhood and gets some unsettling information.

Oishi never realized how sheltered a life he had led in Seoul until the first day he went for a walk in his new city. The blatant violence, the drug use, everything was just on display as he walked down the street. He heard snipets of conversations in different languages. Some were English, most were Korean. He noticed the looks he was getting, people sizing him up. Just as he was giving up and heading back to his new home - he hoped he remembered which one it was - someone walked up and rested a hand on his shoulder.

"What's a Japanese doing in this neighborhood?" he demanded. It was Korean so Oishi wasn't sure how he expected a normal Japanese to understand him.

"My family just moved from Seoul. Does it matter that I'm not Korean by blood?" Oishi asked, using his native tongue as easily as the man in front of him. He was scared, but he was doing his best to hide it.

"You should be careful, kid. The Japanese gang and Korean gang don't get along. You'll need protection before long if you're going to survive the war." Oishi blinked as the man walked away. He hurried home, slipping into the house and locking the door. The idea of getting wrapped up in a gang war brought movie images to his head with lots of blood and death. He was better off burying himself in his English books and staying there for a very long time. Violence sickened him. He wanted to go back to his sheltered life in Seoul.

Ooooh. I'm going to enjoy this.

Are you going to post these in order?
24th-Apr-2008 05:17 pm (UTC)
Thanks! I'm going to try? we'll see, but I'm not sure of the order yet. And I still have prompts to write so we'll see how that works out.

Ah... not knowing the order does make it hard!

I found it very helpful to put the prompts in an order, and then write them that way, when I was doing Shattered.

I'm doing it more based on what I can come up with for the prompts. That way I'm not trying to work with a prompt that I have no inspiration for.

That makes sense, I think. I usually had ideas for what I wanted to do, and how to make them fit. I don't know what I'm going to do with the others I have in mind, though...

yes, well, you'll figure it out or it just won't get done. No harm in that.

You have a point.

I may not like it much, but you do have a point.

^_^

Deal with it. I'm used to not finishing my fics or have them go nowhere. You're used to forcing it to go somewhere.

PINK!

Actually - I learned. I pick my battles. I have over 200 stories unfinished (including the one that was 124 pages, handwritten, that went nowhere).

You deserved the pink.

That's a good lesson, though. Sometimes you just can't win.

DESERVED pink? How?

It is. And sometimes, you shouldn't win.
24th-Apr-2008 07:12 pm (UTC)
For not liking my point!
24th-Apr-2008 07:14 pm (UTC)
But I agreed with it!
24th-Apr-2008 07:18 pm (UTC)
But you didn't like it!
24th-Apr-2008 07:19 pm (UTC)
But that's totally beside the point!
24th-Apr-2008 07:19 pm (UTC)
No it's not!
24th-Apr-2008 07:40 pm (UTC)
It is too. Because I agreed.

Liking it doesn't matter!
24th-Apr-2008 07:41 pm (UTC)
But I had a good idea and you didn't like it! *pouts*
24th-Apr-2008 07:57 pm (UTC)
But I accepted and AGREED with it!

Much more important than liking it.

hmm, looks interesting. I'll keep an eye on this one to see how it goes for Oishi. You do love to give him a hard time, but in a good way. ;D

Thanks! I do torture him, but if I'm smart I'll save the last prompt to give him his happily ever after.
