The cabin was filled with enough tension to last most people a lifetime. Unfortunately, the two occupants weren't actually doing anything to remedy it. Shinji sat next to the living room's picture window, staring out into the darkness. He couldn't see the blizzard anymore, but he could hear and feel it. Between the howling wind, moaning trees, creaking cabin and the freezing chill slowly creeping in Shinji was just done with this blizzard. They were supposed to be on their way home, no, by now they should be home with family and friends not holed up in a cabin that had lost power because of a stupid blizzard. Shinji looked over to where Atobe was sitting next to the fire place, seemingly absorbed by the flickering flames. He had to look away, back out the window.

Their fight was stupid. Neither of them could stop a blizzard and they were mostly to blame for missing New Year's at home in Tokyo. If they hadn't delayed leaving until New Year's Eve they would have been home and not waiting out a blizzard. Shinji shouldn't have yelled, but Atobe should have lost his temper. They were both to blame and for once Atobe was going to be the first to apologize after an argument. Shinji shivered a little as he drew his knees to his chest.

Atobe watched the flames in the fireplace, grateful that at first hint of the blizzard they were smart enough to bring in enough firewood to last for hours should the power go out and it had a few hours later. Though, they weren't going to be able to have a fire in more than one room. Atobe wasn't a fan of tension and he hated arguing with Shinji. He just wondered why they fought so much when neither of them wanted to. Sure, they were very different people, but they still loved each other.

Out of the corner of his eye he saw Shinji draw in on himself from the cold that Atobe knew was creeping into the cabin. With a sigh he got up and crossed the room to where his boyfriend was sitting to place a gentle kiss on his forehead. "Shinji, you're freezing. Please come join me by the fire," he said softly. Shinji was the only person he said 'please' to, but Shinji didn't look at him. "Shinji, I'm sorry," he whispered as his fingers raked through those dark locks. Shinji was also the only person Atobe apologized to.

Shinji looked up at him and sighed, tension releasing a little. "Me, too," he whispered as he got to his feet and stepped into Atobe's chest. Atobe's arms wound tight around Shinji's body, rubbing his back to warm him before guiding him over to the fire. "Mom's going to be mad I didn't get home," he pointed out as Atobe sat down and he settled himself on his boyfriend's lap.

Atobe held him close as Shinji curled into him. "Gakuto's going to throw a fit over missing his party, but I think we got the better New Year's."

Shinji laughed and pressed a kiss to Atobe's neck. "We do have it pretty good," he murmured ever so softly and tucked his head into his boyfriend's neck. "You're warm."

Atobe rolled his eyes as he rubbed Shinji's back again. "That's because I've been by the warm fire, not the cold window," he retorted. "You could have ignored me until I apologized and still sat by the fire."

Shinji shook his head. "Nope. Not as effective."

Atobe chuckled before tilting Shinji's head back and captured the younger man's lips in a sweet kiss. Shinji squirmed so that he was facing Atobe and the kiss became a touch less awkward for them both. His arms wound around Atobe's neck as he felt the first gentle touches to his skin just beneath the hem of his shirt. Shinji gasped when those fingers dipped beneath his waistband earlier than expected.

Atobe pulled back, not taking advantage of the gasp like he usually did. "What?" he asked.

Shinji shook his head. "Nothing," he replied and shifted a little closer. "Might as well celebrate New Year's properly since we have no where else to be right now," he added as he leaned in for another kiss.

Atobe did his best not to smirk as he ran his hands up Shinji's back, caressing the skin, and pulled him closer as their lips meshed once again. This was a much better way to spend their time than arguing with each other.
